Dar copiii cresc, iar odată cu ei se schimbă și felul în care alegem să călătorim.
Fiind mamă de băieți plini de energie și mereu în căutarea unei noi provocări, ne-am dorit să încercăm și altceva. Nu orice vacanță la munte și nu oriunde. Am căutat o destinație care să îmbine confortul cu aventura, gastronomia cu natura și relaxarea cu activitățile în aer liber. Un loc în care fiecare dintre noi să găsească ceva de iubit.
Așa am ajuns în Megève.
If you had asked me until recently where I love spending my holidays, my answer would have been simple: by the ocean. I’m the kind of person who is drawn to the sea breeze, the sound of the waves, and slow mornings spent on the beach. Whether it's summer or winter, the sea has always been my favorite escape.
But children grow, and as they do, the way we choose to travel evolves with them.
As a mother of energetic boys who are always looking for their next adventure, we wanted to try something different. Not just any mountain destination, and certainly not just anywhere. We were looking for a place that combined comfort with adventure, exceptional food with breathtaking nature, and relaxation with outdoor activities—a destination where each member of our family could find something to love.
That’s how we found ourselves in Megève.

Megève este unul dintre cele mai elegante sate alpine din Franța. Povestea lui începe în anii 1920, când familia Rothschild și-a dorit să creeze o alternativă franceză la celebra stațiune St. Moritz. Astăzi, Megève și-a păstrat farmecul autentic: chalet-uri din lemn, străzi pietruite, magazine cochete și o atmosferă sofisticată, dar relaxată.
Vara în Megève este surprinzătoare
Am ajuns într-o perioadă în care Franța era afectată de temperaturi caniculare, iar alegerea muntelui s-a dovedit inspirată. Nu mi-am imaginat că o vacanță la munte poate avea atât de multă energie.
În fiecare zi am făcut mișcare. Copiii au fost în elementul lor, iar noi ne-am bucurat să îi vedem explorând natura. Una dintre cele mai memorabile experiențe a fost downhill-ul pe bicicletă. Recunosc, am ieșit din zona mea de confort, dar exact aceste momente sunt cele care rămân în memorie. Am descoperit trasee spectaculoase, am făcut off-road, am admirat peisaje incredibile și am petrecut timp împreună, fără grabă și fără telefoane.
Cred că acesta este, de fapt, cel mai mare lux.
O destinație pentru cei care iubesc gastronomia
Megève este un adevărat paradis pentru iubitorii de gastronomie.
De la restaurante alpine autentice până la restaurante fine dining, oferta este impresionantă pentru un sat de munte.
Momentul culminant al vacanței noastre a fost, fără îndoială, cina la Flocons de Sel, restaurantul distins cu trei stele Michelin al chef-ului Emmanuel Renaut.
A fost mai mult decât o cină. A fost o experiență gastronomică în care fiecare preparat spune o poveste despre Alpi, despre ingredientele locale și despre respectul pentru natură. Sunt acele experiențe pe care nu le uiți și care justifică o călătorie în sine.
Patru anotimpuri... și Four Seasons
Pentru cazare am ales Four Seasons Hotel Megève, iar experiența a fost exact ceea ce ne doream.
Camere elegante, servicii impecabile, atenție la fiecare detaliu și o echipă care reușește să facă totul să pară firesc. Este unul dintre acele hoteluri în care te simți bine din primul moment și din care îți este greu să pleci.

Mai mult decât o stațiune de schi
Cred că acesta a fost lucrul care m-a surprins cel mai mult.
Megève nu este doar o destinație de iarnă.
Vara, satul este plin de viață. Boutique-urile sunt deschise, terasele animate, restaurantele pline, iar oferta de activități pare nesfârșită: mountain bike, drumeții, golf, parapantă, escaladă sau pur și simplu plimbări prin centrul care pare desprins dintr-un film francez.
Și poate tocmai această combinație face Megève atât de special.
Poți începe ziua cu adrenalină pe munte, continua cu un prânz gourmet, petrece după-amiaza explorând magazine elegante și încheia seara cu un pahar de vin pe o terasă, privind apusul peste Alpi.
M-aș întoarce?
Fără nicio ezitare.
Nu credeam că voi spune asta despre o vacanță de vară la munte.
Dar Megève m-a convins că există și altfel de vacanțe. Vacanțe în care natura, sportul, gastronomia, confortul și timpul petrecut cu familia se îmbină perfect.
Iar dacă, până acum, pentru mine vara însemna doar mare, după această experiență știu sigur că Alpii francezi vor avea de acum înainte un loc special pe lista destinațiilor în care voi reveni cu drag.

Located just an hour from Geneva, Megève is one of the most elegant alpine villages in France. Its story began in the 1920s, when the Rothschild family envisioned a sophisticated French alternative to the famous Swiss resort of St. Moritz. Today, Megève has preserved its authentic charm, with traditional wooden chalets, cobblestone streets, stylish boutiques, and an atmosphere that feels both refined and wonderfully relaxed.
This is the kind of place where luxury is never ostentatious. Everything feels understated, elegant, and perfectly in harmony with the surrounding mountain landscape.
Summer in Megève: A Beautiful Surprise
We visited during one of France's hottest summers, making our decision to escape to the mountains feel even more rewarding. The fresh alpine air, cool evenings, and breathtaking views over the Alps created the perfect setting for a summer holiday.
I never imagined that a mountain vacation could be filled with so much energy.
Every day was an adventure. The boys were in their element, constantly exploring and embracing the outdoors, while we loved watching them discover nature in such an active way. One of the highlights of the trip was downhill mountain biking. I have to admit—it pushed me well outside my comfort zone—but those are often the moments that stay with you the longest.
We explored scenic trails, enjoyed off-road adventures, admired spectacular landscapes, and, most importantly, spent uninterrupted time together as a family, away from screens and everyday distractions.
Looking back, I think that is the greatest luxury of all.
A Destination for Food Lovers
Megève is a true paradise for anyone who appreciates exceptional cuisine.
From cozy alpine restaurants serving traditional Savoyard dishes to sophisticated fine dining experiences, the culinary scene is remarkable for a mountain village.
The absolute highlight of our trip was dinner at Flocons de Sel, Chef Emmanuel Renaut's three-Michelin-star restaurant.
It was far more than a meal. It was a culinary journey where every course told a story about the Alps, local ingredients, and a deep respect for nature. These are the kinds of experiences that stay with you long after your journey ends—and are worth traveling for on their own.

More Than a Ski Resort
Perhaps this was what surprised me the most.
Megève is so much more than a winter destination.
In summer, the village comes alive. Boutiques are bustling, terraces are filled with people enjoying long lunches, restaurants buzz with life, and the list of outdoor activities seems endless: mountain biking, hiking, golf, paragliding, climbing, or simply wandering through streets that look as though they've been lifted straight from a French film.
And perhaps that's exactly what makes Megève so special.
You can start your morning with an adrenaline-filled adventure in the mountains, enjoy a leisurely gourmet lunch, spend the afternoon browsing elegant boutiques, and finish the day with a glass of wine while watching the sun set behind the Alps.
Would I Return?
Without a second thought.
I never imagined I would say this about a summer holiday in the mountains.
But Megève completely changed my perspective. It showed me that summer vacations don't have to revolve around the sea. They can be about breathtaking nature, outdoor adventures, outstanding gastronomy, beautiful hotels, and, above all, meaningful moments spent with the people you love.
If, until now, summer had always meant the ocean to me, this trip proved that the French Alps deserve a place on my list of destinations I'll happily return to again and again.
